The Redbourg Quartet was founded by Yuri Rhodenborgh in 2016 when he started his Master program at the conservatory of Tilburg, then consisting out of alto saxophone, guitar, double bass and drums. Rhodenborgh wanted to realize the music that had been in his mind for ages; a mix between modern jazz and classical music of the 19th and 20th century. Since then they released an EP (Trćlanípan), got a review in the JazzFlits, played in various locations throughout the Netherlands and got to the final round of the Leidse Jazz Awards 2018.
For his final Master recital, Rhodenborgh wanted to take it up a notch; his aim was to write a suite for an extended version of the Redbourg Quartet. The Redbourg Group was formed, adding to the quartet a tenor saxophone and a trumpet.
Rhodenborgh wrote this 30 minute piece of music and recorded it during his final Master recital, for which he was awarded a 9,5. |
